When a dog or cat is struggling to breathe, every second counts. At Animal Medical Clinic of Vicksburg, we are proud to offer advanced veterinary oxygen cages—the only clinic in the Vicksburg area with this lifesaving technology. These specialized units allow us to give pets extra oxygen in a calm, temperature-controlled environment so they can breathe easier and recover faster.
An oxygen cage (sometimes called an oxygen chamber) is a sealed enclosure that delivers a higher concentration of oxygen than what pets breathe in normal room air.
Inside the cage, your pet receives:
· More oxygen with every breath
· Steady and controlled airflow
· Careful temperature and humidity control
· Less stress and no need for a face mask
This setup is especially important for pets who panic or become distressed with tubes or masks—oxygen cages are safe, gentle, and stress-reducing.
Your pet may need oxygen therapy if they experience any condition that causes difficulty breathing or low blood oxygen levels. Common conditions we treat include:
· Pneumonia and other respiratory infections
· Congestive heart failure
· Asthma and chronic bronchitis
· Collapsed trachea
· Smoke inhalation or toxin exposure
· Heatstroke
· Severe trauma or shock
· Anemia or internal bleeding
If your pet seems to be panting hard, coughing, turning blue or purple around the gums, or collapsing, immediate oxygen therapy may be critical.
Signs your pet may need immediate help:
· Breathing fast or struggling to inhale
· Open-mouth breathing in cats
· Gagging or choking sounds
· Pale or bluish gums or tongue
· Extreme weakness or collapse
